Lufthansa transports more passengers, lifts sales and improves load factor / Lufthansa Cargo raises sales and capacity utilisation significantly
In the first three quarters of 2010, Lufthansa transported more passengers than in the first nine months of the previous year. From January through September, 44.1 million passengers chose to fly with Lufthansa, an increase of 5.2 per cent on the year-earlier level. Capacity during the term was up by 1.9 per cent. Revenue passenger-kilometres rose by 4.7 per cent. The seat load factor climbed year-on-year by 2.2 percentage points to 79.9 per cent. While the passenger count grew in all traffic regions, the strongest growth was recorded in the Middle East / Africa region.
Overall, the airlines in the Group welcomed more than 67.8 million passengers on board their flights over the past nine months. This is equivalent to an increase of around 22 per cent against the first three-quarters last time round. Of the total, 10.6 million were carried by SWISS, 8.4 million by Austrian Airlines and 4.9 million by bmi. The number of flights was up by 19.5 per cent to a total of 763,170.
Transport volumes at Lufthansa Cargo improved remarkably. In the nine-month term, the cargo carrier in the Group transported around 1.3 million tonnes of freight and mail, an increase of 19.4 per cent on the year-earlier level. The freight load factor rose by 9.8 percentage points to 71.1 per cent.
