Lufthansa Supervisory Board appoints Simone Menne as Chief Financial Officer

07.05.12

Stephan Gemkow to leave the Group on 30 June 2012

Simone Menne has been appointed to the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG as Chief Financial Officer with effect from 1 July 2012. This decision was taken by the Supervisory Board at its meeting in Cologne today. Simone Menne succeeds Stephan Gemkow, who is stepping down as CFO in mutual agreement with effect from 30 June 2012 in order to take over as Chief Executive Officer of the Haniel Group. Simone Menne’s contract runs up to 30 June 2015.

Jürgen Weber, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG said: “With Simone Menne, we are appointing to the Lufthansa Group Executive Board an experienced Lufthansa manager, who is fully conversant with the Group and our industry. In the difficult economic and political conditions prevailing in the aviation industry, that is the best prerequisite for further successful stewardship of the important finance division.  Thanks to strong and proven management continuity, Lufthansa will remain one of the world’s most financially sound aviation groups in the future.“

Simone Menne (51) has been Chief Financial Officer of British Midland Ltd. since 1 June 2010. A business management graduate, she began her career in the auditing department of the American ITT Corporation in 1987 before moving as auditor to Lufthansa in April 1989.  In 1992, she took over as Lufthansa accounts manager based in Lagos. Between 1995 and 1999, Simone Menne held diverse positions in Hamburg as head of DP and user services, as project manager reorganising revenue management in the Lufthansa passenger business and as managing director of Lufthansa Revenue Services GmbH. In 1999, she assumed responsibility for commercial management and human resources for Lufthansa in Paris prior to taking over the same post later in London in 2001. In 2004  Simone Menne was appointed Vice President Finance and Accounting at Lufthansa Technik before moving as Chief Financial Officer to British Midland in 2010.
