Analyses

  • Climate protection:

    Implementing emissions trading worldwide

The EU Commission is taking the wrong approach in its plan to include flights taking off to and from Europe in the emissions trading system. Such a partial solution will not help the climate. If the EU is serious about reducing carbon emissions caused by air transport, it should follow the recommendation of the ICAO and do everything in its power to implement emissions trading at the global level.
  • Traffic rights:

Call for a balanced relationship with Gulf state airlines

Already now, Germany has one of the most liberal air transport agreements with the Gulf state airlines. If the market is opened further, it would create even more imbalances in competitive conditions at the expense of local airlines. This would be a serious mistake, also from a labour-market perspective.
