In June 2018, the airlines of the Lufthansa Group welcomed approximately 13.3 million passengers, an increase of 11.8 percent compared to June 2017. The available seat kilometers were up 8.3 percent from the previous year, while at the same time, sales increased by 9.3 percent. The seat load factor increased by 0.8 percentage points to 83.5 percent compared to June 2017.
Lufthansa Group Airlines carried a total of 66.9 million passengers in the first half of 2018 - more than ever before. The seat load factor reached 79.8 percent, a historic high for the first half of the year.
Cargo capacity increased 5.2 percent year-on-year, while cargo sales were down 0.6 percent in revenue tonne-kilometer terms. As a result, the Cargo load factor showed a corresponding reduction, decreasing 3.8 percentage points in the month to 65 percent.
The Network Airlines – Lufthansa German Airlines, SWISS and Austrian Airlines – carried 9.7 million passengers in June, 11.1 percent more than the prior year. Compared to the previous year, the available seat kilometers increased by 5.7 percent in June. The sales volume was up 6.8 percent over the same period, increasing the seat load factor by 0.8 percentage points to 84 percent.
The network airlines at the Zurich hub grew strongly, with the number of passengers up 19.2 percent year-on-year, followed by Munich (+14.3%) and Vienna (+10.1%). In Frankfurt, passenger volume grew by 6.1 percent. The seat kilometres also increased to varying degrees: in Munich by 12.5%, in Zurich by 8.4%, in Vienna by 7.7% and in Frankfurt by 1.6%.
Lufthansa German Airlines transported 6.5 million passengers in June, a 9.2 percent increase compared to the same month last year. A 4.7 percent increase in seat kilometers in June corresponds to a 4.9 percent increase in sales. Furthermore, the seat load factor was 84.1 percent, an increase of 0.1 per-centage points from last year.
Eurowings, along with Brussels Airlines, together carried approximately 3.6 million passengers in June. Among this total, 3.3 million passengers were on short-haul flights and 269,000 flew long-haul. This amounts to an increase of 13.9 percent in comparison to the previous year. June’s capacity was 20.8 percent above its prior-year level, while its sales volume was up 22percent, resulting in an increased seat load factor of 0.8 percentage points to 81.7 percent.
On short-haul services, the Airlines raised capacity 14 percent and increased sales volume by 17.8 percent, resulting in a 2.7 percentage points increase that resulted in a seat load factor of 83.6 percent compared to June 2017. The seat load factor for the long-haul services decreased by 3.1 percentage points to 77.7 percent during the same period, following a 37.8 percent increase in capacity and a 32.5percent rise in sales volume, compared to the previous year.
