Austrian Airlines’ Tokyo-Vienna Route Surpasses Expectations

  • Outstanding booking situation since initial flight in May 2018
  • Tokyo-Vienna as the best Premium Economy Class route
  • Summer flight schedule will start at the end of March 2019

The Austrian Airlines route connecting Tokyo and Vienna has been a major success to date. The first aircraft to Tokyo took off on May 15, 2018, followed by the return flight back to Vienna on the next day. “Our expectations with respect to demand and revenue have been clearly exceeded up until now”, explains Don Bunkenburg, Senior Director Sales for Japan and Korea, Lufthansa Group. “These excellent results confirm our decision to renew flight service between Vienna and Tokyo.” An additional positive factor is the new Premium Economy Class launched by Austrian Airlines. “Tokyo is the destination with the best Premium Economy Class results”, Don Bunkenburg states. “The Japanese market has very positively received this product, which we are naturally very pleased about.”

Until the end of October Austrian Airlines flies five times per week from Japan’s capital city to Vienna, the musical capital of the world. Next year Austrian Airlines will once again operate flights on the route connecting Tokyo and Vienna in its summer flight schedule starting at the end of March 2019.
